Lesson 5 - Juxtaposition

Eg.Juxtaposition of church and tall contrasting building

What is Juxtaposition??

Definition: Simply stated, juxtaposition means placing things side-by-side. In art this usually is done with the intention of bringing out a specific quality or creating an effect, particularly when two contrasting or opposing elements are used. The viewer's attention is drawn to the similarities or differences between the elements. [source]

Some people will feel hard to understand what is juxtaposition. However it is very easy to understand by explaining using pictures!

Juxtaposition is quite often use in advertisement.

Juxtaposition by putting the healthy advertisement and the fast food advertisement. We will directly get the message of fast food will cause obesity.

Lesson 4 - Associated Mind Map

The class was interesting because the lecturer was keep making jokes while teaching....=)
Before we start the class, lecturer was giving us a piece of A3 paper, and the purpose he gave us the paper is want us to sketch out associated mind map of mortar and pestle by choosing 5 keywords from the power point slides. We need to use the 5 keywords to think out something interesting or may be something weird from the mortar and pestle.

Here are my associated mind map of mortar and pestle. The 5 keyword i chose are fashion, smoke, weapon, game, and money~

The 1st picture is about fashion, human may use the mortar as hat and pestle as necklace in the years of 3001? The second picture is about weapon, due to the mortar and pestle are very hard so its is very suitable for weapon. The mortar is use to cover our fist so that when we attack enemy we will not feel the pain. The pestle also can use to whack enemy too.

The 3rd picture is about $$$ ~ Money =D . Beggar can use the mortar to collect money and use pestle to make some noise to get attention from people for the donation. The 4th picture is about smoke. By using the concept of matches, the frictional force between mortar and pestle can make out fire and smoke.

Come to the last picture, it is about game. Mortar as the steering for controlling the car in the racing game and the pestle as the gear.

"THINK IN DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE VIEW"

Packaging

Packaging for enclosing or protecting products.

What I want to share here is a packaging of potato chips from Lays.

The shape of the packaging above is different compare to other photo chips packaging like Pringles or Master Potatoes. However, the packaging is using a high-barrier plastic container. Therefore the packaging innovation ensure fresher, fewer broken chips compare to Pringles.

Some interesting packaging:

Lesson 3 - Method of creative thinking.

The picture above is one of the example of mind map. As you can see from the picture, there is a diagram full with words, lines and pictures. Actually it help us to generate, visualize, structure, and classifieds our ideas. Teachers or lecturers are always asking their students to do mind map for the chapter of the book because mind map is a one of a method taking notes. We will easier recall back existing memories by looking the mind map we created.

There have two different mind map, one is logical mind map and another one is associated mind map. Logical mind map is directly connect to stereotype. This mean every words and pictures that inside the logical mind map is exactly related to the central subject that link to. However, associated mind map is using random word to link another word from central subject that do not related from the central subject.

Here are the examples of logical mind map and associated mind map:

Logical mind map
Associated mind map

What is stereotype?
Stereotype is a
1) A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image.
2) A person who is regarded as embodying or conforming to a set image or type
3) (printing) A metal printing plate cast from a matrix moulded from a raised printing surface.
4) To make a stereotype of someone or something, or characterize someone by a stereotype.
5) To print from a stereotype.

and i found that I-DUNNO restaurant is existing in the world but nt Malaysia..
[I DUNNO]

Lesson 2 - Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention.

-----Reflections on lessons learned-----

In lesson 2 , lecturer teach about Novelty, Creativity, Innovation ans Invention. Get to know that Creativity is divide into big capital "C" and and a small capital "c" ."C" is some creative work or product or other things that may influence or change the aspect of culture. However, "c" is only somethings that only for personal satisfactions. Currently, i do not have "C" but "c". =) i hope someday i can create something in the categories of "C".

Is Creativity same with Innovation?
The answer is NO. Actually it quite confusing between creativity and innovation. But after attend lesson 2, i realize that creativity is the process coming out an idea while innovation is something idea selection and development or commercialization or making improvement.
Creativity -> Innovation??
After come out the idea, then turn the idea into reality.

Innovations is divided into 2 categories too.
1)Continuous evolutionary innovations:
- changing and improve the product characteristic but not changing to a new product
-no need user learning
2)Dynamic continuous evolutionary innovations
- need some user learning
- do not disrupt the routine

Novelty is the quality of being new.
Here are my research on Novelty items:

X-ray Specs

Novelty value of X-ray Specs:
X-Ray Specs were long advertised with the slogan "See the bones in your hand, see through clothes!" Some versions of the advertisement featured an illustration of a young man using the X-Ray Specs to examine the bones in his hand while a voluptuous (but fully-dressed) woman stood in the background, as though awaiting her turn to be "X-rayed."

The claim is untrue, of course; besides the unlikelihood of a safe and functional X-ray device selling for about a dollar, X-ray detectors require an X-ray source.

Part or even most of the novelty value lies in provoking the object of the wearer's attentions. These subjects, if unable to be entirely sure that the device did not indeed allow the wearer to compromise their modesty, were liable to respond with a variety of amusing reactions. [source]

Inventor is someone who have knowledge and create something new and come out new idea. After they get the idea , they start to invent it! So they have a process called invention.
Roger Bacon is one of the famous inventor, invented magnifying glass.
